With Pearl Jam on a little break, Stone Gossard revived his side project Brad. The trio recently released Best Friends? through Monkey Wrench. The group stopped by KEXP for an in-studio performance to mark the occasion. In related news, drummer Jack Irons (Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers) just released his new solo album, No Heads Are Better Than One, which features a performance from Alain Johannes (Them Crooked Vultures). Aimee Mann Previews Forgotten Arm Musical

Aimee Mann will head out on a fall trek to preview songs from her new musical, based on 2005's The Forgotten Arm. Said album "follows the story of John, a Vietnam vet and boxer struggling with addiction, and Caroline, a young woman trying to escape the dead end world she lives in, as they meet, fall in love and road trip across America." Mute Math Preps Armistice Live

Mount Eerie to Release Song Islands Vol. 2

Mount Eerie will release a new rarities and singles compilation, Song Islands Vol. 2, on October 19th via P.W. Elverum & Sun. Most of the 31 included tracks "have only been released into ultra-obscurity on limited 7" singles and forgotten compilations." The set follows 2002's Song Islands from the Microphones. Elliott Smith 101 in November

Kill Rock Stars will release An Introduction to... Elliott Smith on November 2nd. The Elliott Smith compilation will include 14 tracks from the songwriter's seven albums. It's intended to "enable new generations to learn about Elliott's music" and isn't really for die-hard fans. [www.spin.com]
