Funky Soul and Rare Grooves covers four discs with 86 tracks, including work from The Meters, Earth, Wind & Fire, Wilson Pickett and of course Curtis Mayfield.

The Knife to Release Live DVD

The Knife are set to release the DVD Silent Shout - An Audio Visual Experience through Rabid Records in the UK and Europe on November 8th. The show in question was filmed on April 12th in Gothenburg, Sweden. The release also includes the duo's full videography, all in surround sound. Hopefully this won't take a year to hit stateside. However, you can still have a chance to catch the real deal next month.

Mogwai Provide Soundtrack to Zidane Film

While not a proper follow-up to Mr. Beast, Mogwai have provided the full soundtrack for the Douglas Gordon film Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait. The film was recorded during a Real Madrid vs. Villareal soccer match, with 17 cameras focused solely on Zidane (luckily, no headbutts were captured). The 10-track album will hit UK stores on October 30th via PIAS. To watch the movie trailer head over to UIP France.

Sonic Youth Destroyed

Just in time for Christmas (December 11th) Sonic Youth will release a compilation of b-sides and rarities entitled The Destroyed Room: B-Sides and Rarities. While no details have been released officially yet regarding the disc you can bet it will have some real gems on there for the hardcore SY fan.

The Black Crowes In The Studio

The Black Crowes camp recently confirmed that the Brothers Robinson have been spending time in the studio working on material for the group's first studio album in six years. After the remaining dates of their Fall tour, the guys will head back to the studio with a 2007 release in mind.

Blind Melon Reform with New Frontman

11 years after the death of the irreplaceable Shannon Hoon, the surviving members of Blind Melon have decided to reform with a new frontman, Travis Warren. The new Melon have already penned three songs, "Make a Difference," "Harmful Belly" and "For My Friends," with a record release and tour are expected for 2007. Best not get your hopes too high, however.

Mute Math Get Major-Label Debut

Despite the fact that most of us have been listening to the debut full-length from Mute Math since early this year, it looks like Warner Bros. finally got their act together and re-released the record late last month. The quartet are now touring in support of the major-label release with The Whigs and Jonzetta. In related news, the band also landed a spot on MTV's "You Hear It First." Watch it on YouTube.

The Army Hits the Road

Army of Anyone (who you should know about already) will head out this November for their first-ever live shows. The group will kick off the dates November 18 in Philadelphia and play live shows through the end of the year before embarking on a full-scale tour in 2007. The band says they will perform material from their previous catalogues (Filter, Stone Temple Pilots) alongside tracks from their self-titled debut, due out November 14 via Firm Music.

Spoon gets some Trouble ready

Spoon is working on their sixth LP Trouble Minx (tenative title) but has no tenative release date set quite yet. In the meantime, the band will release one new song on the soundtrack to Stranger Than Fiction due in theatres Nov. 10th (soundtrack released Nov. 7th). Look for an instrumental track featuring Britt Daniels and Brian Reitzel on the same disc.

My Chemical Romance will return on October 24th with The Black Parade, produced by Rob Cavallo (Green Day). Thus far, the album seems like the band's best stab at Queen's trademark drama and theatrics. However, you can now preview the entire album and judge firsthand.

Plaid Score Tekkon Kinkreet

Following up their work on Greedy Baby, Plaid have supplied an original score for the new anime Tekkon Kinkreet. The film, which is based on the the comic Black and White by Taiyou Matsumoto, will be released in Japan on December 23rd. Check out the trailer on YouTube and the Tokyo Film Festival website for further details. An official soundtrack release is expected.
