Broken Social Scene hiatus

Seems like going on indefinite hiatus is all the rage these days, or maybe it's the best way to preserve some form of artistic integrity without putting out a bunch of crap music. Such is the case with Broken Social Scene who are reportedly going to take some time off after their current batch of tour dates. You can read more on the matter from Kevin Drew here.

Snakes on a Cobra Starship

Midtown lead Gabe Saporta has joined Maja Ivarssen from the Sounds, William Beckett from the Academy Is... and Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes to form Cobra Starship. Their single "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)" is featured on the film soundtrack with songs by Cee-Lo, All-American Rejects and The Hush Sound. The soundtrack hits stores August 15th. Check out the "Snakes on a Plane" video that also stars Samuel L. Jackson and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz.

Calexico Hit the Road

Calexico have announced some Fall tour dates, with a performance at the Touch & Go 25th Anniversary Celebration and Austin City Limits Festival, September 14th-16th. Prior to the September tour, Calexico will be appearing in New York at Central Park's SummerStage with The New Pornographers on August 3rd and in Chicago at Lollapalooza on August 5th. Calexico released their fifth full-length, Garden Ruin, in April.

Death Cab for Elvis

Be sure to tune into VH1 Classic July 21st at 8:00 PM to catch Death Cab for Cutie perform as special guests of Elvis Costello as part of the "Decades Rock Live" concert series. Watch Death Cab perform "Accidents Will Happen" with Elvis as a duet, as well as "Kinder Murder," "I Will Follow You into the Dark," and two songs from the encore. Other special guests include Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Fiona Apple.

Thom Yorke Apperances for The Eraser

Aside from the pre-release press, Thom Yorke did manage to stop by a few other outlets in the big push for the The Eraser release last week. You can listen to his full interview with Terry Gross of Fresh Air on NPR. As well, Mr. Yorke hit the Henry Rollins show on IFC, where he performed two songs. You can watch the performance of "The Clock" with Jonny Greenwood on the show's media player. Catch the encore showing July 20th and 11pm ET with another performance featuring Jonny and Nigel Godrich.

Metallic Falcons Debut Desert Doughnuts

Metallic Falcons or, more specifically, Sierra Cassidy of CocoRosie and Metteah Baim released a debut full-length last month titled Desert Doughnuts. The haunting album features appearances from Antony of Antony & the Johnsons, Devendra Banhart and Greg Rogrove of Tarantula AD. Hit the Voodoo-EROS website and preview "Disparu" or "Four Hearts."

Sean Lennon Victim of Friendly Fire

No longer "disillusioned with the machinery of the industry," Sean Lennon will release Friendly Fire on September 26th through Capitol Records. In addition composing new material, a short film tackling "betrayal and the failure of love" was created for each song. Stream the trailer for the new full-length on the album website.
