Polyvinyl Records artist Headlights will release its debut album Kill Them With Kindness on August 22nd. The day after that, the band will venture out on the road for a month with labelmates Decibully. Long ago it was announced that French Kicks had a new album on the way, titled Two Thousand, to be released August 8th. That date still stands! And, the band will be sharing stages with Phoenix and What Made Milwaukee Famous, among others, to get the word out.
Saeglopur is the name of the upcoming release from Iceland's Sigur Ros; an EP and a DVD comprise the package. As far as the music goes, three of the tracks are new, one's from Takk, it's out August 8th through The Worker's Institute and tracklistings for both are here...
Austin's Peter and the Wolf gets its first official (that means on a label) record release sometime in September. The unusual group is the brains of Red Hunter, and at the moment, the band's current incarnation changes per date: local musicians and friends comprise the group while Hunter does his thing. Check 'em out if you're close, it's probably something you won't see again. Oh, the album will be called Lightness.
Musicfest NW 2006 goes down Sept. 7-9, though unfortunately it's restricted to, well, the Northwest. But, those of you in that region can rejoice, as the line-up is solid, if not one worth salivating over. Performers include the Brian Jonestown Massacre, The Zombies, the final show from The Sword, and a handful of leaders without their bands in tow...Eric Bachmann, Britt Daniel, Jeremy Enigk, Kristin Hersh, etc. More info here, and more bands...
Hella have a new EP on the way...5RC will release Acoustics on September 12. No excessive rambling is necessary on this one, as you should have known it was on the way.
Former Fugazi bassist Joe Lally has completed work on his first solo album, There to Here. The album was recorded by former bandmate Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studio in Arlington, VA. Lally enlisted the help of Eddie Janney (Rites of Spring), Jason Kourkounis (Hot Snakes), Jerry Busher (French Toast), Guy Picciotto, Danny Frankel, Amy Farina (The Evens), Scott Weinrich and Antonia Tricarico to contribute to many of the album's tracks. A full Fall tour with Antelope should be announced soon.
He Is Legend will release Suck Out The Poision on October 3rd through Solid State. The North Carolina natives are currently gearing up for their stint on this year's Warped Tour, beginning July 25th.
We've been hearing bits and pieces about the forthcoming new album from Sparklehorse but now we can confirm that the album will be titled Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain and is slated for a September 25th release in the UK. No US release date yet.
The next full-length release from Sparta will be entitled Threes. No word on a tracklisting yet but we've known for a while its been set to hit stores on September 26th.
Spacey post-rockers My Education are soon to hit a couple handfuls of cities in support of their brand new EP, Moody Dipper, on Thirty Ghosts Records. The disc picks up where 2005's acclaimed Italian left off, and you'll find them breaking out and sharing their sonic ambience in the following locations...
That new Channels full-length we mentioned earlier this year is now titled Waiting For the Next End of the World and will be released on August 28th through Dischord. A limited run of shows should be announced soon. Preview the album art at dischord.com.
Citizen Cope has stealthily completed a new album titled Every Waking Moment. The album should hit stores on September 12th, but pre-sale information will be made available soon. If you want a taste of what's to come, hit the Downloads for a live version of the title track from Fall show last year.
The next opus from The Mars Volta will be entitled Amputechture and is slated for an August 15th release date. The eight-song affair is bound to bring you more prog rock than any regular human could handle in a single sitting (in a good way). We also hear that John Frusciante helped Omar be more objective about his riffs.
Grandaddy calls it quits but Jason Lytle just can't stop touring. After a handful of acoustic in-stores the frontman has now expanded his tour for another month. Catch him while you can because this is likely the last time you'll hear Grandaddy songs live.
Those that are mourning the loss of Sunny Day Real Estate (and actually good "emo" music) can rejoice in the release of the second solo album from Jeremy Enigk entitled World Waits. It should hit stores on October 17th via Lewis Hollow Records but he'll be hitting the road on tour long before that. Check the more for tracklisting and tour dates.
After Snow Patrol had to cancel their tour in support of Eye's Open, they promised they would reschedule. Looks like they're making good on that now.
Swedish popsters Shout Out Louds have released the EP Combines to show off the best remixes of tracks from their debut album Howl Howl Gaff Gaff. The tracks are available on iTunes and at exclusive indie retailers. The 'Big Slippa Remix' by RATATAT makes the purchase completely worth it, not to mention the new track "I Meant To Call."
It is safe to say that the title of the Suicide Squeeze compilation, Slaying Since 1996, is all too appropriate. The two disc set that we told you about has been rescheduled for an earlier release date (July 25th) and features a slew of tracks from artists on their roster past and present. Disc Two is comprised entirely of previously unreleased tracks.
