I never thought I'd say it but Smashing Pumpkins will be releasing a new album this summer, their first since 2000. Zeitgeist will be released on July 7th, 2007 (07/07/07 - a Saturday) via Reprise. The band is slated to play several big festivals this summer but only one in all of North America.
Word from the Bishop Allen camp is that they've got a full-length album wrapped up and delivered to their label, ready for release on July 24th.
Fresh off a lengthy opening stint for The Ataris and Asobi Seksu, Chicago's Wax On Radio are spending today resting (presumably) and then embarking on yet another tour. The band also recently posted some video footage which can be viewed here.
Following the departure of their brother, Joe Loeffler, Chevelle regrouped, wrote and recorded a new full-length, Vena Sera. The album will hit stores on April 3rd, but you can stream the entire thing over at Hear It Hear First.
Bjork has announced the first dates of her world tour in support of the upcoming album, Volta, due May 8th. Following an appearance at Coachella on April 27th, the tour consists of seven North American dates throughout May. The Icelandic goddess also recently gave Volta-related interviews to MTV.com and Pitchfork.
Athenians Casper & the Cookies are still on the road with The Apples in Stereo, though somehow some dates slipped past us when we initially posted about the tour. The quartet has announced a handful of additional dates in support of last year's The Optimist's Club, some with The Icicles and others where they'll go it alone.
You know that the new Polyphonic Spree album, The Fragile Army, is coming out but now we can tell you that it will be released on TVT Records and will hit stores in June (not July as previously thought). Check their official site to preview music from the new disc.
The new Modest Mouse album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, is in stores today. Added to that, the band will be selling pre-sale tickets for dates to their upcoming tour here (pass: ENGENIUS).
Absolutely Kosher will be delighted to release the next Get Him, Eat Him album, Arms Down, on June 5th. Catbirdseat informs us that the likes of Charles Bissell of the Wrens and Zach Condon of Beirut will make appearances on the album.
Stereophonics will release Rewind, a film chronicling the first 10 years of the band, on DVD on April 2nd (UK). The 2-disc set includes a 100-minute documentary, 2 1/2 hours of live performances, rare videos and an exclusive preview on their upcoming album. No US release in sight, so get in on the import. The White Stripes have announced a summer tour (with several multi-night residencies) in support of their forthcoming album, Icky Thump. A tentative June release is the latest word, but nothing has been confirmed.
Mary Timony will be releasing The Shapes We Make on May 8th, 2007 via Kill Rock Stars. There aren't many details beyond that with the exception that she will be shooting a video for one of the songs with art collective Papparad.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah have announced an April/May tour to further support the release of Some Loud Thunder. They'll be taking Elvis Perkins for support and will break for their second appearance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on April 4th.
Clarence Greenwood aka Citizen Cope will hit the road in April with a full band to get a few more miles out of Every Waking Moment. Greenwood was interviewed recently by Kelly Slater for Surfing Magazine.
As you may recall, The Electric Soft Parade are just about to loose their new album, No Need To Be Downhearted, on the US on April 24th. Lovitt Records will release Harmonium, the debut album from Glös, on March 27th. Glös features Keeley Davis (Engine Down, Denali, Sparta), Cornbread Compton (Engine Down, Heavens) and Maura Davis (Denali, Ambulette). Maximo Park will grace the US with a run of dates in July to promote the forthcoming release of Our Earthly Pleasures. The album will hit US shelves on May 8th. Listen to "Our Velocity" on maximopark.com.
Florida's Poison The Well has released four tracks from their forthcoming album, Versions. Hit up MySpace for "Nagina," hop over to Purevolume for "Breathing's For The Birds" and then AbsolutePunk.net for "The Notches That Create Your Headboard." You can also stream "Letter Thing" at any of the mentioned sites. Look for the album in stores on April 3rd.
Goldrush will return with The Heart Is The Place on April 10th through Better Looking Records. The album follows 2005's Ozona and was produced by James Rutledge (aka DJ Pedro). Stream the entire album over at MySpace or grab a couple MP3s in the Downloads.
Sam Beam will bring back Iron & Wine in late September with a new full-length, The Shepherd's Dog. The 12-track album will be preceded by the single "Boy With a Coin."
