Looks like guitarist Charlotte Hatherley has left UK band Ash after a 9-year meaningful relationship. The split looks amicable, and Ash even gives news of Hatherley's next solo effort due for release sometime this autumn on their official site.
The list of nominees for the upcoming NME Awards has been announced. And I, for one, am a little surprised by a few of the omissions...
The Classic Crime have posted "The Fight," the first song from their forthcoming album, Albatross, due out March 21st on Tooth & Nail. Listen to the song over at Purevolume. As par for the course, the guys are touring extensively.
The Mike Patton/Dan the Automator collab, Peeping Tom, will finally see a release on May 30th, according to sources at Ipecac. It's about time.
Menomena recently updated their fans with news of current and future plans. Brent just finished a few performances of his Island Desk: my teeny tiny knowledge of nothing peformance piece (also featuring Monster Squad and Marty Schnapf), while Justin has returned from cavorting in Australia. With the three members now united once again, writing and recording for the the follow-up to I Am the Fun Blame Monster has begun and should see release in 2006. You might not know about 'em yet, but Jonny Lives! are yet another up and coming NYC band. You can check out "Cliché" over in our downloads page... the track features members of The Strokes, Fountains of Wayne, and The Mooney Suzuki.
Flogging Molly will kick off their Green 17/ Black 17 tour in Minneapolis on February 4th. The tour is two-fold with the first leg being all ages Black 17 Tour, and the second leg the Guinness sponsored, 21+ Green 17 Tour. Most cities will host one show from each tour, although in a few instances, the Green 17 and Black 17 shows will be performed in different markets within the region.
In the continuing story of Death By Sexy, the new album from Eagles of Death Metal, an April 11th release is now expected. With the growing list of marquee names attaching themselves to the project, it should be a spectacle.
As you know, Battles have indeed now joined the ranks of Warp Records. On February 7th, Warp will release EP C /B EP, a double-CD album the collects the material from Battles single and 2 EPs releases.

With a new Destroyer record coming out in February it only makes sense that the band would do some touring behind it. Starting in late March, they'll hit the road with Magnolia Electric Co.
In ongoing speculation that The Smashing Pumpkins may one day reform it seems that someone got their hands on an upcoming Coachella 2006 promotional poster where Smashing Pumpkins and Depeche Mode were the main headliners. Chalk this one up to pure rumor as the Coachella officials have confirmed nothing quite yet.

The official full-length follow-up to incredible South album With The Tides will be entitled Adventures in the Underground Journey to the Stars and should hit shelves on April 4th, 2006. The forthcoming Deftones full-length still isn't finished and if you're curious as to why - you may want to read this interview with drummer Abe Cunningham. It should be out in late summer, early fall as best as I can tell. In the meantime, go see them on the Taste of Chaos tour to get some insight into the new songs.
Chino Moreno of the Deftones will produce several songs for the upcoming Dead Poetic album. In a statement from the band, they reported: "We will be spending 4-5 days in Sacramento in late January to record songs with Chino, and will then head straight to Seattle to record the bulk of the album with producer Aaron Sprinkle." Dead Poetic are currently posting a new demo clip for preview each week on their website (but, to save you a click, just go check those out at Purevolume).
Since the folding of Dreamworks Records some artists were left without a home. Sparta was one of them. They've now signed on with Hollywood Records and will be releasing a record this summer. In the meantime, they'll be releasing a series of video podcasts on their site, the first of which is available now.
