With guitarist/vocalist Chuck Ragan on an extended break the three remaining members of Hot Water Music (Jason Black, George Rebelo and Chris Wollard) have now formed The Draft. The group's sound is self-described as "hard hitting, [with] prideful vocals and intelligent melody." You can preview three new songs and read the full statement from The Draft over on their MySpace page.
Although there have been some free downloadable covers in the past we've been low on Kind of Like Spitting news. Turns out that there will be 3 new releases starting in January. The Thrill of the Hunt features 10 original tracks and 4 covers (similar to those available at Redder). There will also be a full-length release entitled In The Red and an EP of cover songs released via Hush Records. Details forthcoming...
Seems like Soulwax wasn't completely satisfied with the outcome of their latest album, Any Minute Now (which I highly suggest you pick up) and will be releasing Nite Versions on September 26. The album features reworked versions from Any Minute Now as well as some new tracks.. very odd.
You know that gigantic slew of Pearl Jam bootlegs you always see at the record store? Well, the band feels your pain. On their upcoming North American tour they will start selling bootlegs via their official site in highly quality, non-DRMed, mp3 format. The program starts September 1st.
The Talking Heads will re-issue their eight studio albums with bonus material, outtakes, b-sides, alternate material, totally remastered, etc. set for release on Oct. 4. It is unclear at this time if the reissues will be available individually or exclusively in boxset form.
If you still haven't discovered The Mysterious Production of Eggs I'm not sure what to tell you. You have a problem and you need to deal with it. Step one of the recovery process would be to check out these Andrew Bird tour dates, circle them on your calendar when they are within driving distance of you, and attend said shows. We can get through this together.
Something about Broken Social Scene being on tour (with Feist no less) seems to bring balance to the world. Look for their upcoming, self-titled, album on October 4th.
The last batch of Spoon tour dates could easily have been enough for proper promotion of an album for a normal band. But Spoon is not a normal band. They've got more tour dates and swear that playing Gimme Fiction with reverse tracklisting doesn't make it a stronger album.
You are so aware of Franz Ferdinand's second album You Can Have It So Much Better…With Franz Ferdinand that you probably are sick of hearing of it, but NME.com thinks you should be privy to some FF info. According to the British weekly music rag, the band are considering releasing a couple of tracks that don’t appear on the LP. "Can’t Stop Feeling" and "Turn It On" might be released as simply singles, like in the old days. Ye shall have to wait and see.
It's been nine years since the Fugee's big splat in the face of pop, The Score, and in three weeks, you get to hear the single "Take It Easy" from the Fugee's upcoming album, which at this point might be like a new band release as oppossed to a follow-up. The word is that the new album, as yet untitled, will be really old-school hip-hop, and the Fugees will be going on tour next summer. Hold your breath now, people. Remember that Lauryn's been in the studio promising things too.
I happen to hate Yellowcard, but maybe your opinon differs from mine and you're actually interested that the band is in the studio and will be opening for Sum 41 this fall. Or maybe you cared that music from Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy, Bloc Party, LCD Soundsystem (I like them), the Bravery, the All-American Rejects, Timo Mass, and the Doors (one of these things is not like the other ones...) will be on the in-game soundtrack for the new EA video game "Burnout Revenge", due September 13th.
Hey guess what? (What, yo?) Floetry will release their third album (what's it called?) Flo'Ology, on November 8th, and Common appears on the CD's first single, "SupaStar."
Jane's Addiction member Stephen Perkins will lead Banyan, Wayne Coyne will lead the Flaming Lips, and... Well, the above two bands will joing G.Love and Special Sauce, Medeski Martin and Wood, DJ Logic and Particle on the Xingolati Groove Cruise when it sets sail from Los Angeles on October 14th. What that is, I don't know, but bring the SPF 60.
Sometimes NME.com is not reliable. Remember that. Caveat in place, someone associated with Rolling Stone cover kids the White Stripes said that Jack White had “been in talks” with Coca-Cola to develop a theme song for the soda that would eclipse the harmless-but-annoying "I'd Like to Buy the World a Coke." Again, you can't believe everything you read. But the White Stripes did turn down a GAP advertisement, according to the source. I believe that, but I'm finnicky.
Possibilities, the new album from Herbie Hancock, is available for its worldwide premiere through Real Guide on Rollingstone.com for one week. The album, due August 30th, features collaborations with John Mayer (he's everywhere!), Joss Stone, Sting, Annie Lennox, Trey Anastasio, Santana, and Paul Simon.
Word has come that Annie is going on tour with Royksopp this fall. Annie also has an exclusive remix of "Me Plus One" by The Rapture over at her MySpace page.

From CursiveArmy.com, "Cursive regrets to announce the departure of cellist Gretta Cohn. After four years in the band, Gretta has decided to leave Omaha to pursue other interests and projects, including a potential solo album. The split is very amicable: the band wishes her well and she in turn eagerly anticipates the new Cursive material to come. Cursive will not be seeking a replacement."
You can preview the new OK Go! album over at VH1's site right here. The disc, Oh No!, will be in stores next Tuesday.
