The Sun to release DVD

Reported by yewknee

Why release a CD / DVD combo when you can just release a stand-alone DVD? The Sun will be releasing their debut, Blame It On The Youth, on September 14th exclusively in DVD format. The disc features videos for each of the albums 14 tracks, high quality WAV files to rip, encode, and do with as you please, and DVD-Audio of the actual album. Will this prove to be an intelligent decision? Only you can decide that on September 14th...

Minus The Bear release Menos El Oso

Reported by yewknee

Minus The Bear will release their more "mature" album Menos El Oso on August 23rd via Suicide Squeeze. It's actually not more mature but the song titles aren't as over the top as days gone by so it seems that way. Catch the band on their heavy touring schedule to get a good dose of the rock.

The forthcoming Death Cab for Cutie album, Plans (details here), will be the first release for the band via a major label. Reported by yewknee

Indie rock snob favorites Dungen are touring the US (but you knew that) in support of their recently US released Ta Det Lugnt. We thought they'd never be back after their pit stop in July but they've announced another good solid month of touring throughout North America.

Absolutely Kosher needs your help to fight the man

Reported by yewknee

Rarely are you given the chance to directly fight "The Man." However, Absolutely Kosher is in a bit of a battle with Wind-Up Records over the back catalog of The Wrens (who's Meadowlands really should be in your collection). Absolutely Kosher is attempting to purchase the back catalog of the band for 100k and the label is refusing the offer - despite the fact that they are making no money off a few out of print discs. So, do your part and send emails or letters to Wind Up Records urging them to accept the deal with Absolutely Kosher.

Jon Brion collabs with Kanye West

Reported by yewknee

Typically I doubt we'd report on the upcoming Kanye West album, Late Registration, but it seems that Jon Brion has been brought on board to co-executive produce the album (best known for his works with Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann, and the Magnolia / Punch Drunk Love soundtracks). The results should be interesting to say the least. Read more about it here.
